St John the Baptist's Church

St John's Church.

This Anglican church is in the Gothic Revival style of architecture and it is stone built with a slate roof and tracery-headed windows. The tower and spire are about 120-feet high. The foundation stone was laid on the 28 Jun 1876 and the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Manchester, the Rt Revd John Fraser, on the 24 Apr 1878. The architects were Wild & Collins of Oldham (John Wild & Joe Collins) and it is understood that the design was by John Wild. The contractor for the work was James Knott of Hurst, Ashton-under-Lyne.

St John’s Church is listed Grade II, List Entry No. 1356439.

All Saints Church.

This Anglican church is situated at the end of Church Ln, Micklehurst, on the north side. The foundation stone was laid by the Bishop of Chester, the Rt Revd Francis Jayne, on the 10 Jun 1893. The architects were Potts, Son & Pickup (Edward Potts, his son William Edward Potts, and George Pickup). This was a prominent architectural partnership based in Manchester.

The church is stone built in the Gothic Revival style with a slate roof. The roof has fish-scale pattern slates in two rows on each side and the tower has a three-sided stair turret to the left.

The church is now derelict due to dry rot and consequently services are currently held at the All Saints Institute on the nearby Micklehurst Rd.
