Flowery Field church is situated on the west side of Newton St by the entrance to Well Meadow and it opened in 1878. It was built by the local cotton mill owner, Thomas Ashton (1818-98), for use by his employees and their families for worship regardless of creed. It was dedicated by Thomas Ashton and his wife, Elizabeth née Gair. The mills concerned were Carr Field and Bayley Field Mills on the east side of Newton St, directly opposite the church.

Thomas Ashton served as the first mayor of Hyde in 1881, as well as becoming the High Sheriff of Lancashire, and being a magistrate for Cheshire and Lancashire.

The architect was Thomas Worthington of John Dalton St, Manchester, and it was built in the Perpendicular or Tudor Gothic style of architecture. It is cruciform in plan and the detached tower is 81-feet high. It is listed Grade II, List Entry No. 1162448.
